Registered Charity 212218
Friends Housing Bursary Trust (FHBT), founded in 1946 as Housing Bursary Trust Fund has provided bursaries for elderly poor people to support their housing needs, in particular supporting members and attenders of the Religious Society of Friends. FHBT will soon lose its Clerk and Treasurer who has decided to lay down his service. Trustees agree that FHBT will be unable to continue its work beyond 2026 and must be closed in an orderly manner.
The current trustees entered discussions with the Trustees of North East Thames Quaker Trust (NETQT) which has a comparable charitable purpose to relieve hardship amongst members and attenders of the Religious Society of Friends..
We agreed together that FHBT beneficiaries will be offered the opportunity to become beneficiaries of NETQT on the same arrangement of quarterly bursaries as they presently receive. Once Beneficiaries have accepted this offer, FHBT will have no further work to do and will give its capital to NET QT. Trustees of FHBT who have kept in touch with beneficiaries regularly may be invited to take a similar role for NETQT.
FHBT Trustees warmly thank all the Friends who have served as Trustees over the decades of its existence and all the local Quaker Meetings, individual Friends and Quaker Trusts which have supported the work. We thank the Trustees of NET QT for their agreement to continue and maintain this work for our beneficiaries.
